Why Leaf Leather Is Different From Other Vegan Leathers
Most vegan leather alternatives on the market are made from PU (polyurethane) — a type of plastic. PU vegan wallets are technically animal-free, but they’re made from petroleum-derived synthetics, they shed microplastics, and they eventually crack and peel.
Leaf leather is different. It’s made from natural teak leaves that are cleaned, pressed and treated with non-toxic resins to create a material that is:
- 100% natural and plant-derived — no petroleum, no plastic
- Genuinely cruelty-free — no animal products whatsoever
- Biodegradable — it breaks down naturally at end of life

Every Plant Hide wallet is handcrafted in our workshop in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand — close to the teak forests where the leaves are sourced. Local artisans hand-finish each piece, which means slight variation in texture, colour and tone from wallet to wallet.
